When I try to drag and drop my "Music" folder from my networked folder (which has about 2000 albums) it takes a long time for it to parse a single album. I stopped it after two minutes and only 6 albums had been added. Just checking if it's just me or the current state of WMP.
I don't want to add it as a "Watched Folder" because I don't need it polling in the background, I just want to build my initial library.

WMP 11 slow to add files?

That build step is pretty awful right now even on a local drive. When it gets going it's OK (apart from being app-modal) but it can suddenly stop early in the process.
I don't think I got it to complete file acquisition until my third Vista install.
I've had the same problem. I found that if you click on Library, and then select "Add Files to Library" it brings up the watched folders dialog. From there if you click OK at the bottom it scans the system for all media files and updates Windows Media Player's information.

Generally I've found troubles with dragging and dropping things especially when Aero Glass isn't turned on. When it is, you get the nice little graphical "adding files" icon which is great and causes me no problems.

Same here Shawn, it takes a long time to import the audio files and album from another partition. What I did as a work around in a previous build was to do the actual import from Media Center, it was faster and it updated the Media Player 11 library. -- -- Andre Windows Connect | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I am running windows media 11 in XP and I have about 11,000 songs on an external hard drive and it has been adding files to media player library for over 12 hours and its only up to the letter 'P' not even 2/3 done. I hope this is not going to be happenning in the final release..

You should be able to close the dialog and continue to browse and listen to what has been added to the library so far. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Can Someone tell me how to add files to my WMP 11 library, when I assign a folder to watch for media files it does nothing. When I go back to check if the folder is still there the space to enter the folder is empty. I just want to know how to add files to my library. Thanks
